Tae Kwon Do Mama

Two years ago I signed my youngest daughter up for Tae Kwon Do class. She took to it like a duck to water.

For six months I sat six hours and watched her kick, jump, punch and have a great time.

I read and listened to audio books while watching. As I watched an ember inside me began to come to life.

I have always wanted to learn martial arts but with four children, husband, house, homeschooling and gardening etc. I didn't feel I had the time. I have never been much into physical activities other than gardening, walks and bike riding.

There I sat hour after hour, day after day, week after week watching and feeling this burning desire within me growing.

Was I too old? Was I too out of shape?? Had I missed my opportunity to learn this art?

I decided finally to go for it. I signed up for six months and paid my money upfront. I figured I would stay with it after giving all this money for classes.

The first few months were so hard. IT was like being in labor that never ended. I hurt in places I didn't even know I had. Every muscle ached and throbbed. I coughed till I thought I would pass out. I was so sore I could hardly shift the clutch in my car to come home, take a few pain pills and fall into blissful sleep.

Over the first four months there were many times I thought I would pass out from exhaustion and pain. Master Lee kept saying, "you strong Mama, you do more". I believed in his belief in me. I found that place deep down inside where giving up just isn't an option.

I pulled from my toes and found strength for one more hour of kicking, jumping and punching, running and moving.

Now almost two years later I just received my recommended black belt level three certificate.

Am I proud?? You bet. My children are proud, Master Ho Won Lee is proud, my friends are proud. We are amazed at how far I have come. I am now looking forward to my Black Belt.. me.. a black belt!!!! How amazing.

I am honored to have such a great teacher. Master Ho Won Lee of Dothan Tae Kwon Do sees deep into the hearts of his students and always encourages each to do more, to push past the pain, the fear and into achievements.

I am honored to be a martial artists. I encourage all who have ever thought of learning Tae Kwon Do to JuST DO IT>>>

My oldest daughter, youngest daughter and grandson also take. Our family motto is "The family that kicks together, sticks together".

Kicking,

Donna the Tae Kwon Do Mama
